 Why do most people dread the idea of travel? “Ohh my god Sally, $1400 to fly to Costa Rica. That is an entire month’s rent and a car payment”. Right, the cost. Often people look at the price of where they want to go on vacation once and decide it’s a fortune! A bit of looking and searching for a good deal is often more money saved and more timed saved than actually working for the extra money at a job. Instead of putting in extra time at the office to pay for the trip put your efforts into searching for a good deal where you can save money. My vote is to always spend less time at your job. wait for it… Internet? Basically, the internet solves every problem in the world. The only kicker is that you need to actually apply the information to save any money. Last week, we I did an interview with Cora. She was able to successfully set up her massage business around her travelling!. She got her credentials while studying abroad and got to travel for fun as well, genius! Today, I’m going to give you some of the sites that A LOT of other people and myself included use to save themselves a fortune on travel costs. Now, keep in mind that I live in Alberta, Canada.. So, you may need to adjust the location of each website to suit your personal needs. I’ve just discovered a new fully Canadian site that seems to flush out rock bottom deals to stellar parts of the globe. Recently they sent me a deal from Calgary to Costa for $360, including all taxes and fees return! Now Sally can have her Costa Rica and money to burn. The guys name is Chris Myden, he seems like he’s got a good thing going so I asked him if he plans to expand into the USA. Chris said “I do currently only send alerts to Canadians. I also keep an eye on U.S. cities that are within a reasonable driving distance of Canada. For example, if something really interesting from Bellingham or Seattle comes up, I alert everyone in the Vancouver market (YVRdeals).” The extra beauty of his site is that he walks you through exactly how to book to get that deal. It zones into your actual location and focuses on adventures in your area. This site will send you killer deals and discounts on regional attractions as they come up. For example, last year they sent me a $35 lift ticket voucher for opening week for skiing or snowboarding in the rocky mountains. I also bought half price white water rafting vouchers for the same area for anytime during the rafting season. Amazing! Travel Zoo, http://www.travelzoo.com/ca/ It lets you select your region then sends out vouchers as they become available. - Travel Alerts.ca http://www.travelalerts.ca/ also lets you sign up for deals from your area. Based on flights, vacations or hotels. They are mainly focused on a few select travel sites that the company deals with so when those sites have some great deal they pass them your way. - Another stunner that isn’t so much subscription based but rather research based is the popular Air BnB. Launched by several guys who started renting out air mattresses in their apartment to travelers who either wanted to save a buck or couldn’t find another place to sleep. Basically you can rent a place to sleep in anything that is being offered around the world. You might wake up in a cave, van or castle. I’ve personally used it to find a place to live and listed space for rent on the site. It’s a nice way to support a micro entrepreneur and get to know the locals while traveling. My advice would be to sign up for a few sites and briefly read them over as they arrive in your inbox. That way, you’ll know where to look when you are in the mood for some traveling input and you’ll have that nice warm fuzzy feeling in the back of your mind that travel is affordable and easy!
