How much $$$ to moon for a mate?
“Cash is King, Hustle or starve, Money makes the world go round, How much?, Friends are more important then money, Everyone has their price.”
A couple weeks ago I was at a small dinner party. The one guy was getting flack from his G-Friend in front of everyone about how he’s such a cheapskate and refuses to waste anything. She found it funny he would cut his lotion bottles in half and saran wrap cans of pop that weren’t finished. That was a new one for me.
Once everyone started to give examples of how they were cheapskates I think her opinion shifted a wee bit. He and I started chatting and he explained how he sold his house to move into a smaller condo, had over $80,000 in RRSP and didn’t really have interest in buying things. He said “I only like to spend my money on experiences”.
I love watching what different people and cultures like to spend their money and time on. You go through Mexico where the majority of the population is so poor they only stuff the tortillas with beans. What they do spend is time with their family. It’s amazing, the family appears from the outside looking in, to be the most important thing.
You see tattoos and the back windows of trucks with “Family” scribbled on them. No not “La Familia” the drug gang, I know the difference.
I’m sure family is important around here, thou it usually falls 3rd or 4th inline in North America. If people like to admit it or not, I’m pretty sure work is #1. Justify it however you’d like.
I don’t think I’ve seen the word “Family” across a single back window North of the boarder. Maybe those little stick men families or zombie families count? More so I’ve seen some funny stick men banking the word “IT”. You figure it out…
So what would you do if money we’re no object?
I hear people say all the time; “When I retire I’m going to travel”, “If I win the lotto, I’ll go on a BIG trip”, “If I could afford it, I’d take a nice deserved vacation”.
Maybe those 50hour weeks you put in 52weeks a year (that’s 108, 24hr solid days of work. Or close to 1/3 of an entire year at work.), you’re chasing the wrong thing???
Maybe not, maybe you’re doing exactly what you love and the time is irrelevant. I’d bet if so, you are the minority.
Personally I’m pretty torn. I love money, some days I even enjoy the hustle to make it. Some days I could care less. Today I lost in a poker game and I was a bit miffed.
It’s a 50/50 split for me, or maybe it’s 80/20 or maybe it’s 20/80. I also have a lot of experiences that I couldn’t buy back with any amount of currency.
One time in Australia at 18, my best mate Joe came for a visit. We got so drunk he made me a bet that I wouldn’t moon a bunch of people eating dinner in the window of a fast food joint on a lower level building . Bet taken, pants dropped, diners not impressed, Joe laughing hysterically, bet won!
This was only ½ of the hilarity.
Some 30minutes later in our drunken stooper we’d gotten a little turned around and had some time to kill before taking the ferry back to the mainland, so we went for a bite to eat. It was probably the rudest, worst service I’d ever gotten. I know we were drunk, thou these people seemed like they were going out of their way to be dicks to us.
Anywhoo we sit down to eat a burger and fries when I look out the window and it hits me that were in the same placed I’d mooned ½ and hour earlier!
I can only imagine what they did to those burgers we ordered…
Below is a video by Allen Watts. Philosopher, Eastern religious interpreter, speaker and perhaps a bit of a user. All the same he made some ingenious presentations on life and what you might want to get out of it.
I think I’ve listened to this 3minute video a hundred times.
Hustler me has been selling, building & labouring for long enough this year. So experience me is going to kick of New Years in the UK, then off to South France and North Spain for a month.
Been there? What should I know and where should we go??
