I try to keep a little collection in the back of my mind of supporting evidence for hope for the planet. It’s stashed someplace between recent flight deals I saw, like West Jet beginning to fly to London next year! It’s about time, thank you West Jet. And other important things like how many coloured shirts can I put in the wash & still get away with throwing in some whites shirts… The story of the Grandmother who is paddling from the U.S.A. to Guatemala to raise funds for families she had met who live in garbage dumps in Guatemala City to better their lives. I’ve been to Guatemala City, it’s a bit of a rough town. And this Grandma is taking her Kayak there, what’s your Grandma up to? You can read her that story HERE. Or this African based story of team work and entrepreneurship where companies are giving Africans efficient smoke free stoves in exchange for half there harvest of twigs, leafs and grass until the stove is paid back. You can read that story HERE. Today I read a brief article on Donald Trump and his campaign to become President of the U.S.A. (I only give politics a very brief amount of my attention ever) He said that as President of the U.S.A. on day one he would close the boarders. Close them so no illegal immigrants could get through. I think that China once had a “great wall” and eventually it came to it’s senses and has sort of come down. I also know that it likely cost the U.S.A. an extremely large amount of $$$ to patrol that boarder. I also know it used to cost them a lot of $$$ to lock up people for marijuana use and now they are starting to make $$$ of it. I’m pretty sure the U.S.A. could find a way to make $$$ of immigration. Give someone who just clawed across the desert passed cartels, cops & scorpions an opportunity to better themselves and let me know what those results are. I also know that Donald Trump is in the business of building things and knows a lot of people in the same business who make a lot of $$$ also building things. I was in Africa earlier this year and naturally saw a few African things that most people have heard enough about to only supports there idea of what to expect of Africa; poverty, corruption, political conflict, racism and so on. Great, I could likely find that anywhere I wanted to look for it. What I also found was some people building a farm to promote health, curb some poverty, create jobs and so on. The Muther of my friend that we stayed with has been witness to a farmer who had planted Moringa trees. Basically a super tree if you will. Headache relief, anti diarrhea medicine, promotes hair growth, energy booster, has the highest protein of any plant in the world and the list goes on. You can Google it or check out this article HERE, there isn’t much this tree can’t offer and you’ll likely find it mixed into protein powders and the like. The farmer plants the trees; she’s an entrepreneur who eventually plans to make a profit. The trees grow and she hires people to harvest the bounty = employment. The trees feed the local people in a fantastic way at a minimal cost = nourishment & growth. The cycle goes round and round like any good business and boom we have a community beginning to flourish. Holy crap, despite what you may have been told Africa can help itself and has the good people to do it! This has a knock on effect across the planet. Nona the lady from Africa whose idea this is came to speak to a group of young students in the summer in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. Those same students are now doing a Moringa smoothie fundraiser this week in their school to raise funds to kick start that project, damn there is more good in the world then the news leads you to believe! If all goes well an entrepreneur will have helped a community that will then help others with a little help from a bunch of eight yearolds and there teachers on the other side of the planet. I actually like Donald Trump, he’s done well for himself despite his up’s and downs. I don’t doubt he is actually a really nice guy and a total dick all in the same breath. If he becomes President of the U.S.A. I bet he’d create a ton of jobs building a wall in front of Mexico, make a small group of people incredible wealthy that own the companies that build that project. As well as be the first person to have a game show inside the White House. He’d likely be as controversial as the last Bush or was that Douche? However I think he’d actually do all the thinking for himself. There is an overwhelmingly large amount of evidence as to why the world sucks and the same as to why it’s awesome! I’d recommend looking for the latter, you’d sleep better at night if nothing else. If you want to donate to the smoothie / Moringa project let me know, or if you want a bunch of eight yearolds to come to your office and make smoothies for your staff for the fundraiser maybe I can arrange that, if nothing else I’d be messy and hilarious!
