Baja Beauties!!!

Distractions, I thought I left a world of distractions behind me. Seems I just traded them in for a new set of distractions. Even as I set out to pen today’s notes, a little quad rolls up “Quiero pan Senor?”, basically do I want some fresh bread?
A little box opens up and out pops a series of sweet empanadas, cinnamon buns, ham sandwiches and a few others. Naturally I went for the cinnamon bun and now the keys are a little sticky.
The week has been a series of distractions as I head for Cabo on the Southern tip of the Baja. I keep meeting people who are stopping here or there to see this and that. So naturally I head off to investigate their tales of surfing the rolling barrels or endless wildlife spotting.

This has since brought me off my original route to Cabo side tracked to Bahia de los Angeles on the Sea of Cortez side of the Baja, thus meaning the water is officially warm! I was off my bike for about forty-five seconds before I had my clothes off and was swimming in the sea. This may have had something to do with the lack of showers in the last three days too :(
Today even started off with a series of distractions, I thought I’d roll outta the tent and go pee before I exploded. Well the sky over the mountains and the sea was an intoxicating mix of reds and oranges and the water like glass. Instead I fumbled for my camera and what you see is what you get for this mornings rise and shine session.
Next on the list were some exercises, as you can’t eat corn tortillas 3x a day and cinnamon buns as a snack and expect to look like the guy on the Bowflex commercials (I’m thinking more like the Pillsbury Dough Boy commercial right now). So I headed down the beach for a run to the lighthouse, this was about a ten minute run one way,  I decided to break it up with some jumping jacks, sit ups and push-ups. As I’m always on the lookout for a distraction from sit ups, one found me. Just over my shoulder I could hear “puft… puft… puft”, OHH MY GOD I ALMOST FELL OVER! It was a pod of about twenty to thirty dolphins ten feet offshore doing a little hunting. From wee little ones, to ones way bigger then me. It was to say the least, AMAZING! I think I forgot to breathe for a few minutes, and then caught my breath as a crab went swimming by just on the shores edge. Just when I thought the mornings excitement was over, a seal came up, looked at me dove under then came back a few more times before heading off after the dolphins.
I’m going to try and find these same exercise partners again tomorrow.

The week has been a hefty mix of friends and accommodations. One night I rolled down a long dusty road to what I thought would be a deserted beach near a shipwreck. Turns out there were about fifteen surfers there for the long weekend, a couple from Chile, and a few overland vans from France and someplace else in Europe all headed south. A couple nights later after getting lost down a sandy road and dropping KLaiR a time or two I landed at Jorges house, he doesn’t get too many lost visitors down his 4x4 road to ocean. So we chatted a little slow Spanish and he pointed my to Punta Baja, a small peninsula fishing village where I met some Germans headed to Nicaragua. The options were tent under the stars or tent in abandoned house. So I pushed the smashed glass and bits of roof from one side of the room to the other in the abandoned house and pitched my tent out of the wind. Next stop is where I rest my head for a few days under a palapa on the beach in Bahia de los Angeles.
Ohh man, I just looked over and saw another seal! So far this place is winning for most awesome, it might take a year just to get outta Mexico!
Next: b-day tow job!
previous: week one, not weak one
